Armorial Description

A beaver standing on a log with the inscription JE ME SOUVIENS; superimposed on the side of the beaver a red ring with the inscription REGIMENT CANADIEN FRANCAIS; within the ring a shield bearing the old coat of arms of the province of Quebec. Superimposed on the ring below the shield the Arabic numerals 22; the whole surmounted by the Royal crown.

Origin

At the outbreak of the First World War it was decided that the French-speaking population of Canada should have a representative line unit. The regiment was organized on 20 October 1914 as the 22nd (French-Canadian) Battalion for service with the CEF, and was disbanded on 19 May 1919. On 1 April 1920 the battalion was reorganized as the 22nd Regiment in the Permanent Active Militia. It was redesignated Royal 22nd Regiment on 1 June 1921 and Royal 22e Régiment on 15 June 1928.
