CAUSES OF THE INCIDENT
14. Two ballistic experts, Chief Warrant Officer Van Deersteen (from the Netherlands) and Warrant Officer Savard (Canadian Forces) have examined the vehicle turret and metal and plastic pieces found on the site of the incident. Here are their conclusions:
a. It is certain, and without any doubt that the weapon used was an anti-tank weapon and not a mortar bomb;
b. Following the impact point of the explosion, the blow happened almost in the center of the turret cover where Corporal Gunther was standing.
c. If we consider the effect of the fragmentations, we can see at the back of the turret cover an indentation on the side of the turret cover. This is the consequence of the plugging effect of a heat rocket or an anti-tank bomb.
d. It was probably fired from the right of where the vehicle was, at an angle of 25 degrees. The shooter probably fired his arm from a group of houses situated at about 700 meters, which were probably controlled by Muslims.
